Greco Belgica Says PDDS Wishes Bong Go To Push Through With 2022 Presidential Run

When asked when Senator Bong Go would head to COMELEC to file his withdrawal, Greco Belgica said “Di siya nakapunta dahil andoon ako”

GRECO BELGICA — The former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chief said that his party, Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), wished that its standard-bearer, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, would push through with a 2022 presidential run.

Go was set to run for the presidency under Belgica’s PDDS. However, the senator said in an interview with media last November 30 that he’s withdrawing from the race, citing his family’s wishes and President Rodrigo Duterte’s age.

The senator was originally tapped to run for vice president in the 2022 elections under the ruling Cusi-led PDP-Laban, but he withdrew from the vice-presidential race after Davao Mayor Sara Duterte filed her candidacy for vice president under Lakas-CMD.

Also, Go had cited “unity” as one of his reasons for backing out of the 2022 race.

Mayor Sara was running alongside former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. While the Bongbong-Sara tandem was backed by political parties and personalities allied with the administration, President Duterte has rejected a Marcos alliance for next year as he called Bongbong a “weak leader”.

Speaking to media during a visit to Iloilo City last December 2, the former PACC chief said that it was “not normal” for the administration to not have a presidential candidate.

Nag-usap kami ng partido, sinabi ko yung sinabi [ni Go] and the party said we wish he will not withdraw and continue the campaign kasi ready na tayo,” Belgica said.

According to him, many people were counting on them and the leaders were all set, adding that they’re bet in campaigning hard for the bigger mission of “pursuing the gains of this administration”.

Belgica was also asked when Go would head to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

“‘Di siya nakapunta dahil andoon ako eh,” Belgica said.

Go will stay in power even if he backed out or will lose in the 2022 elections as his Senate term will end in 2025.
