MTRCB Calls Out Coco Martin’s Sigabo Over Violent Scenes
The production team behind Sigabo, the primetime action series led by Coco Martin, attended a compliance seminar conducted by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) after the agency received more than 10 complaints about the show’s violent content.
Held on July 6 at the MTRCB office in Quezon City, the seminar included representatives from CCM Film Productions, Coco Martin’s production company. The complaints were filed after the series premiered on June 22 and raised concerns about the repeated display of fight scenes, physical assaults, torture, violent language, and other graphic content shown during primetime.
MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto explained that the seminar was not meant to penalize the production but to help the team better understand the agency’s standards. She said the board supports creative storytelling and socially relevant themes but reminded producers that television programs must follow content guidelines, especially when younger viewers may be watching.

The board emphasized that every program has limits, even those with mature themes. Sigabo, which also stars Julia Montes, has been given a Strong Parental Guidance (SPG) rating. This classification means the series contains content that may not be suitable for children unless they are under the guidance of a parent or guardian.
The MTRCB also noted that some of the complaints called for a closer review of violent content in primetime television shows to ensure they remain appropriate for their timeslot and audience.

Malu Sevilla of CCM Film Productions said the company understands the concerns raised by the MTRCB and appreciates the guidance provided during the seminar. She added that the production team remains committed to following the board’s standards while continuing to deliver quality entertainment. According to Sevilla, the goal is to create engaging programs while making sure they are broadcast responsibly and in line with existing regulations.
