Senator Go arrived past 1:30 pm at the Harbor Garden Tent in Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City and was accompanied by President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a presser, the senator said that he decided to run for the post after the President withdrew his acceptance of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban nomination for vice president. This wasn’t made public until Senator Go’s COC filing.

With this, President Duterte wished the senator the best and “good luck to his quest for the vice presidency”.

GMA News Online reported that Senator Go’s office has shared photos of the senator praying at Simbahan ng San Miguel at mga Arkanghel, which was located near Malacañang, at around 3:00 p.m Saturday.

Senator Go was President Duterte’s long-time aide, widely seen as the gatekeeper to the president and still attending to the President’s needs even after his election to the Senate.

He was the assistant to Duterte when he’s a congressman and was almost always by his side at public events and in Malacañang.

The senator, who was the chairman of the Senate committees on health and sports, also frequently posted “selfies” with the President on social media.

Earlier this month, the senator declined his presidential nomination despite President Duterte encouraging him to run. Senator Go said that his heart and mind were “focused on serving people”.

However, he also said that he’s leaving his fate to God, to the Dutertes, and to the public.
