President Duterte After Bong Go’s Withdrawal Pronouncement: “Ano ba talaga Bong?”

President Duterte to Bong Go: “Tatakbo ka o hindi?”

PRESIDENT RODRIGO DUTERTE – On Thursday, the Philippine President asked Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on the latter’s 2022 election plans, even as he said that he respected Go’s announcement that he’s withdrawing from the presidential race.

The senator, whose term ends only in 2025, said last Tuesday that he would no longer run to replace the President in the 2022 elections. However, Go has yet to formally withdraw his candidacy.

During a meeting of the anti-insurgency task force in Zamboanga City, the President said that the senator has made a lot of people sad than happy, but he respected his decision and he can’t do anything about it.

Ano ba talaga, Bong? Tatakbo ka o hindi?” President Duterte asked Go. “Off the cuff, you have made a lot of people sad than happy. We respect your decision lalo na kung pamilya, wala na tayong magawa d’yan.

On Tuesday, Go said that his family didn’t want him to run for president in the 2022 elections and admitted that he also didn’t personally aspire for the said position.

The senator also said that he’s removing himself from the presidential race because he didn’t want the President to be “trapped in the middle”.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was running for vice president in tandem with a different contender, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Earlier, the President branded Bongbong as a “weak leader” while praising Go as “honest” and hard-working. He categorically said in an interview last November 14 that he’s not supporting Bongbong’s presidential bid.

Bongbong was up against other presidential aspirants, including Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, and Senator Panfilo Lacson.
