In an ambush interview in San Juan, the senator said that he realized in his heart and mind were contradicting his actions in the past few days.

That is why I am withdrawing from the race.”

According to him, he didn’t want President Rodrigo Duterte trapped in the middle ahead of the 2022 elections.

The senator also said that his family really didn’t like it either.

Go’s statement came almost a week after he admitted that he’s still waiting for “a sign from God” on whether or not he should push through with his presidential bid in the 2022 elections.

The senator previously expressed his willingness to make the “supreme sacrifice” for the good of the country, admitting that he continued to “seek guidance from the Divine Being” since the presidency was “a matter of destiny”.

Kung para sayo ‘yan, para sayo talaga ‘yan,” the senator said at that time.

Go served as special assistant to President Duterte before getting elected senator in 2019.
