Laser Light Captured on Video Being Pointed at Airplane Before Landing

Before landing, a laser light was captured on video being pointed at the plane

LASER LIGHT – A video footage captured laser light being directed towards an airplane as it was preparing to land.

During a recent commercial flight, a passenger was able to capture a concerning incident on her cellphone camera. The footage showed a green laser light being pointed at the aircraft from the ground.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has spoken out on this issue, stating that pointing laser beams or high-intensity lights at airplanes is strictly prohibited. In fact, this act is punishable by law, with a sentence of up to three years in prison or a hefty fine of P500,000.

A physics professor named Eric Inocencio shared his expert opinion on the matter, stating that it was evident that someone had used a laser gun to point the laser at the airplane. Professor Inocencio further recommended that the government should take steps to monitor the sale of such lasers, especially since they are easily accessible online.

Meanwhile, pointing a laser beam towards a flying airplane may seem like a harmless act, but it can have dangerous consequences. In the Philippines, this act is considered a criminal offense under Republic Act No. 10951 or the Anti-Laser Pointers Act of 2013.

Lasers can distract pilots and cause temporary blindness, which can lead to serious accidents. When a laser beam is pointed towards an airplane, it can affect the pilot’s ability to see and navigate the aircraft. This can be especially dangerous during takeoff and landing, when the pilot needs to be focused on the runway and instruments.
