Power Bank Catches Fire During Flight, Injuring Two Passengers

Two people were injured after a power bank catches fire during a flight

FIRE ON A PLANE – At least two people were hurt after a power bank apparently caught fire on a trip from Taiwan to Singapore.

Flight TR993 is scheduled to depart Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan on Tuesday night (January 10, 2023) at 7:35 and is due to arrive in Singapore at roughly 12:20 am the following day.

However, the flight ended in disaster after a power bank caught fire. The crew of the airplane informed the airport authorities right away and firefighters arrived at the scene to put out the fire.

After the fire was extinguished by the authorities, the plane made its way back to the airport apron from the runway. The event resulted in the injuries of two people. The victims’ fingers suffered only mild burns.

Social media users shared images of the inside of an airplane filled with a thick, white cloud of smoke. The passengers decided to continue traveling after a medical evaluation determined they did not need to be hospitalized.

While the aircraft was on the ground, a passengers’s portable power bank overheated, but the flight was still able to safely make it back to the gate. Additionally, meals and lodging were provided at no cost to the affected guests.

“Medical assistance has been rendered to the owner of the power bank and his companion, who sustained minor burns to their fingers. We are rescheduling the flight and will provide affected passengers with accommodation and meals,” Scoot said.
