Pacquiao stressed in an interview via “Balitaan at Kumustahan” with Jon Ibanez on Friday that the Philippines is a democratic country and not under a dictatorship.

“Hindi ako nakikipag-away sa’yo Mr. President. Ang hiling ko lang naman sa ating Pangulo ay huwag niyang depensahan ‘yung mga tao niya na involved sa korapsyon. Hayaan niya na dumaan sa imbestigasyon kasi demokrasya naman tayo,” he said.

According to him, what the Senate is doing is in aid of legislation.

Pacquiao has returned to the country last week after an upset defeat with Cuban fighter Yordenis Ugas.

The People’s Champ previously fought Ugas for the WBA Welterweight title but unfortunately lost via a Unanimous decision (115-113, 116-112, 116-112) after 12 rounds of boxing.

Pacquiao, one of the leading names in the presidential seat, is said to be discussing his political plans for 2022 in the coming months.

He will also talk with Vice President Leni Robredo, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and Senator Panfilo Lacson with regards to the 2022 polls.

Meanwhile, Senator Kiko Pangilinan recently lashed out at critics of the Senate for investigating the Department of Health’s spending on COVID-19 funds, which started in the Commission on Audit’s report.

Among the questionable items flagged by COA are the planned purchase of 4 laptops amounting to P700,000; P42.4 billion fund transfer to the DBM without proper documentation and failure to disburse some P4.8 million in financial assistance to health care workers.

The senate is also investigating the department’s alleged anomalous purchase of overpriced PPE.
