According to the incumbent senator, defunding the country’s national university would be “legally infirm.”

Recently, Duterte threatened to defund the University of the Philippines amid a petition of students for an academic strike in connection with the disaster response of the government.

His statement earned mixed reactions and comments from the public and among those who earlier commented is Senator Pangilinan.

“These issues of stopping funding…sa akin kasi, you threaten you…but in the end why are the students protesting? Let’s go back to that,” he said.

“This is not unique to the Philippines, worldwide you see student protests,” Pangilinan added.

On Tuesday, the President dared the students to stop attending their classes and just criticize the present administration with regards to disaster response and the fight against coronavirus disease.

Last week, the students of Ateneo de Manila University said that they are planning to stop the submission of school requirements beginning November 18 until the government “heeds the people’s demands for proper calamity aid and pandemic response.”

For me, the best pa rin ang administration ngayon, we love Duterte.💪💪👊👊👊

  2. Pangilinan among the 3% with the students in protest, is very negligible and ignoble nature, doesn’t care by 91% supporting PRRD’s admin. Far from perfect, but admin’s handling of disasters were very satisfactory on top of PRRD’s leadership. Sure there were strong suspicion protesters were backed by rebels NPA. ATA law will soon in full force used by authorities to destroy the infrastructures of CPP-NPA beginning from Congress. The gov. show urgency in this move in order to subdue criminality and spur growth of our economy.
