Darryl Yap Announces He’s Taking a Break From Political Movies

Why Darryl Yap is taking a break from political movies?

DARRYL YAP – The director announced that he’s taking a break from political movies.

The director has already made two movies about the Marcos family such as: Maid In Malacañang which hit theaters in August 2022 and Martyr Or Murderer which premiered last March 1, 2023.

At present, he’s gearing up for a third movie about the Marcoses. However, the film doesn’t have a title yet, neither the complete cast.

When given a chance to do a biopic, the Viva director said: “Politician, I would like to take a rest muna. Well, there’s an offer for the Dutertes but I said I’m gonna rest for a while. After the trilogy, perhaps I’m just gonna, you know, create more films that are not political ‘coz it’s consuming my energy, the stress that I’m getting.

“With Viva, I have one hundred percent freedom in creative independence—but with this, I have to consider all the emotions, all the restrictions, and all the convictions of the Marcos family, and I’m not used to working with that. So I guess I’m just gonna rest for a while,” he added.

In an interview with PEP.ph, Darryl said he consider Imee Marcos, the sister of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos as his “boss.” It can be recalled that it was in February 2022, amid the national elections campaign period when they started to collaborate.

Meanwhile, Yap is considered one of the most popular directors in the country today. He rose to stardom when he launched the Facebook page, Vincentiments, which he created together with his colleague and friend Vincent Asis. The Facebook page boomed and currently has over 5 million followers. He is behind the hit movies and independent films such as #Jowable, Tililing and to name a few.
