On Thursday, Mayor Sara called for unity among supporters following Go’s withdrawal from the presidential race.

According to Mayor Sara, she had been calling for unity among the supporters of the administration of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, since launching her vice-presidential bid.

Now that Sen. Bong Go has declared his withdrawal from the presidential race and to quote him, ‘for the sake of unity among our supporters and leaders’, tuloy-tuloy na po tayo sa ating pagkakaisa kasama ang BBM-SARA Uniteam upang tayo ay magtagumpay sa ating hangarin para sa bansa,” Mayor Sara said in a statement.

Mayor Sara’s statement came after Go earlier announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.

President Duterte has yet to announce the new tandem he will endorse in the 2022 elections. The senator has also kept mum if he and the President will support the bid of Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said that Go was still a presidential aspirant in the May 2022 elections “unless he withdraws”.

COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez explained in an interview on Wednesday that Go has yet to formally withdraw his certificate of candidacy (COC).

Unless he withdraws, he will continue to be considered a candidate,” Jimenez said. “He will become an official candidate when the campaign period starts and he has yet to withdraw.

Jimenez also said that political aspirants in the May 2022 elections, including Go, may still withdraw their certificates of candidacy until Election Day.
