Fire hits physical warehouse of FoodPanda

FOODPANDA – A warehouse owned by the food delivery service caught fire early Tuesday morning, November 23.

Apparently, two (2) individuals were injured in the fire incident that hit its physical warehouse in Barangay Ayala-Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The fire which originated on the left portion ceiling of the warehouse struck at exactly 2:25 am.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the incident did not reach any fire alarm since it was “immediately suppressed” but the damage was estimated to be at P5,000.

Foodpanda is an online food and grocery delivery platform brand owned by Delivery Hero, which is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

It processes and sends orders directly to partner restaurants, then delivers the meals by delivery riders to the customers.

The service is available via its website and mobile application. It connects customers with restaurants that offer food delivery in their area and let them choose, order, and pay online/offline.

Currently, it is the largest food and grocery delivery platform in Asia, outside of China, operating in 12 markets across Asia.

It was in 2012 when it was first established in Singapore by Lukas Nagel and Rico Wyder.
Later, it expanded to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand.

In February 2014, Foodpanda acquired its main rival in Pakistan, Eat Oye and in the same year, it expanded its service into the Philippines.

In December 2016, Foodpanda’s once largest investor Rocket Internet sold Foodpanda to Delivery Hero and a year later, it re-branded from Orange to Pink.

Afterward, it went through three management changes until 2019.
