President Duterte to DPWH Secretary Villar: “Manghinayang ako pag tumakbo ka ng senador at manalo ka naman”

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte seemed to be on the edge about fielding Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar as a senatorial candidate in the 2022 elections, saying that the Executive Department will lose a “top performer” if he won the polls.

In his weekly public address on Monday evening, President Duterte praised Villar for the accomplishments of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Pareho kayo top performers; but in terms of largest projects, natural, it would always be the DPWH. Ang galing mo (Villar)!” President Duterte said.

It was reported that the President was thinking of letting Villar run for Senate in the 2022 polls. However, in his weekly public address, President Duterte seemed to be having second thoughts about it.

Manghinayang ako ‘pag tumakbo ka ng senador at manalo ka naman. Mawalaan ang Executive Department ng tao na kagaya mo,” President Duterte said to Villar.

President Duterte’s statement came after he let Villar enumerated the progress and accomplishments of the Department of Public Works and Highways and the national government’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.

Manila Bulletin reported that an independent study released last month found that Villar was the “most influential potential candidate for Senate” in the 2022 elections in terms of mainstream media and social media Facebook pages influence.

Meanwhile, the President has yet to unveil his senatorial candidates for the upcoming 2022 polls.
