Malacañang on Thursday said that President Rodrigo Duterte was set to discuss what transpired during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said during his regular press briefing that President Duterte will address the nation on Thursday night in order to discuss what transpired during his meeting with President Putin earlier this week.

When asked to give details on the Duterte-Putin meeting held last Tuesday, Roque said that President Duterte will be the one to discuss what he and President Putin talked about.

The Philippines was expecting to receive at least 20 million Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine doses from Russia, which had a 91% efficacy rate based on the evaluation of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Philippines. However, there’s no delivery date yet as of this writing.

In a statement released last Tuesday, both President Putin and President Duterte underscored the need for continuing and strengthened collaboration in order to defeat the pandemic.

President Duterte and President Putin also noted the steady progress in defense and security cooperation between the Philippines and Russia, fostered by regular exchanges between military, defense, and intelligence agencies, and vowed to sustain the momentum gained over the past 5 years.

During his regular press briefing, Roque dismissed critics of President Duterte’s decision to deliberately disengage from public activities for two weeks.

Wala kayong magagagwa, iyon ang paniniwala ng Presidente. Hayaan na po ‘yan. Istilo po ni Presidente ‘yun. Kanya-kanyang estilo tayo,” Roque said.
