Calbayog Intel Chief Asked Court for Lawyers Info on His Own Says Eleazar

PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said on Monday that Calbayog City Police intelligence unit chief Police Lieutenant Fernando Calabria acted on his own when he requested a court to identify the lawyers linked to the Communist Party of the Philippines.

According to the Philippine National Police OIC, it was just his initiative to gather such information.

“Sa initial investigation ng regional director ay initiative niya lang ‘yun para makakuha ng mga impormasyon at magkaroon siya ng extensive situationer report on insurgency on the area,” he said.

Recently, Eleazar relieved Calabria in connection with his viral letter asking a court for a list of lawyers who are allegedly involved in reds.

In a statement, Eleazar said Calabria made a mistake by compromising the good relations between the police and the judiciary.

Calabria is the head of the CCP’s Intelligence Unit who signed the aforementioned letter which has gone viral on social media since Friday.

In a letter on March 12 addressed to the Clerk of Court Calbayog City Hall of Justice, Calabria asked for the names of lawyers representing those he described as the “Communist Terrorist Group.”

It even provided a paper where to put the names of the lawyers and their affiliation. It was mentioned that the letter is in compliance with the order from the “higher offices of the PNP.”

But Eleazar denied that there was such an order from the national police.
