DepEd Chief Angara Recognizes 18 Educators and Staff at Gintong Parangal Awards
DEPED – Eighteen teachers, school leaders and support staff of the Department of Education (DepEd) were honored for doing their jobs with integrity at the 14th Ambassador Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal para sa Edukasyon awards, INQUIRER.net reported on October 25, 2026.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara told the awardees that hard work and discipline matter most “when no one is watching.”

“Ang sipag at disiplina ay hindi lamang mga salitang magandang ilagay sa isang programa o sa isang plaque. They are values we must live by, especially when the work is difficult, when the recognition is absent, and when no one is watching,” Angara said.
“Thank you for reminding us that service is not always loud or visible,” he told the honorees.
Angara also reminded education officials that policies should always be measured by how they help people. “We can spend hours discussing a policy without asking the most important question: How will this make life better for the people we serve?” he said.
The honorees are eight teachers, five school and division leaders, and five members of the administrative staff. They come from different parts of the country, from Cagayan in the north to Kidapawan City in Mindanao. They were chosen after screening at the division and regional levels by a panel of DepEd officials, program partners and retired educators.
Among those honored for leadership were Batangas City Schools Division Superintendent Hermogenes M. Panganiban and Cagayan Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Romel L. Libang. Teacher awardees included Candy Claire E. Casil of Agusan del Norte, Remar P. Sino of Kidapawan City and Ervin James Y. Pabular of Ormoc City.
The awards are organized by Fortune Life Insurance Company and MaryLindbert International with DepEd, in honor of the late Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua. They cap the school year’s Value of Hard Work and Discipline program, which has promoted good values, reading comprehension, financial literacy and teacher development since 2011.
