‘Aspikikay’ Goes Viral as Old Eddie Garcia Clip Resurfaces Online

Netizens Laugh Over ‘Aspikikay’ After Old Eddie Garcia Movie Scene Resurfaces

Recently, an old movie clip featuring the late screen legend Eddie Garcia has been making the rounds on social media, and netizens cannot stop laughing over one funny word: “aspikikay.”

According to a report by Radar published on October 25, 2026, the resurfaced scene shows the veteran actor in a playful exchange full of jokes about jeepney parts, grease and mechanic terms used as double meanings. The word “aspikikay” pops up in the middle of the comic banter.

What makes the clip extra funny for netizens today is how much the word sounds like another expression that recently took over the internet: “esmiringhoy.”

“Esmiringhoy” became viral after Cebuana Evelyn Batuigas used it during her appearance on “Raffy Tulfo in Action.” Her unusual choice of words quickly turned into memes, reaction videos and countless shares online.

Also spelled “espikikay,” the older word seems to come from a long tradition of Filipino comic slang, where invented words and exaggerated delivery are used to make people laugh. It has no widely accepted dictionary meaning, and its sense depends on how it is used.

Radar noted that the late veteran journalist Ben Emata once described “espikikay” as “romance” in a 2010 SunStar column, listing it among Visayan words that had disappeared for many years.

Netizens are now pairing the two words in memes, but the report pointed out that their similarity does not prove that one came from the other, since their actual link has not been documented.

For many Filipinos online, the viral moment is simply proof that old-school Pinoy humor never really goes away. Sometimes, all it takes is one shared video to bring a forgotten word back to life.
