Rappler Criticized Online Over Title and Caption in a Report on Death of Eli Soriano

Online news website, Rappler, is currently making rounds online, garnering criticisms from netizens over its article about the death of Ang Dating Daan’s Brother Eli Soriano.

On Friday, February 12, the Church of God International confirmed that Brother Eli Soriano of “Ang Dating Daan” died at the age of 73 years old.

Members of the Church of God International or more commonly called MCGI is one of the international religious organizations headquartered in the Philippines which was founded in 1977 by Brother Eli Soriano.

Brother Eli is also known as Kapatid na Eli. He was the Presiding Minister and Overall Servant of the Members Church of God International (MCGI).

Aside from being the Overall Servant of the said religious organization, he also hosted the radio and television program, Ang Dating Daan.

Recently, Members of the Church of God International released a statement announcing that Brother Eli Soriano of Ang Dating Daan died. It assured that the projects and programs initiated by him will continue.

The MCGI did not disclose the cause of the death of Brother Eli Soriano.

Meanwhile, following the death of the renowned preacher, a certain Pia Morato took to the social networking site, Facebook wherein it shared a snippet of reports about the late preacher.

She cited articles from various news websites such as CNN Philippines, ABS-CBN News, GMA News, and of course, Rappler.

“Notice the difference ? Ano naman po ang laban ng isang tao sa ganito lalo na’t namatay na. Don’t mess a person’s legacy especially after death.
Rest In Peace Brother Eli. Salamat na sa maliit na pagkakakataong naging parte din ako ng UNTV,” she said in the caption.

Her post was then flooded with mixed reactions from the netizens criticizing Rappler.
