Message of ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak To Kapamilya Artists
ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak gave a message to the Kapamilya artists who “chose to stay” with the network.
Undeniably, a lot of people did not expect that ABS-CBN which is one of the biggest broadcasting companies in the Philippines will be shut down this year. A lot of things happened after its franchise reached its expiry.
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) released a Cease and Desist Order against the network over its expired franchise. The network immediately placed its broadcasting operation on off-air.
After it, several hearings tackling the issues surrounding the Kapamilya network were held in the House of Representatives. Those were attended by the executive officers of the company including ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak.
However, after 13 hearings, the voting result did not side with granting ABS-CBN a fresh 25-year franchise. Seventy (70) lawmakers voted to deny the network of a new franchise while only 11 supported the giving of a new franchise.
ABS-CBN which employed over 10,000 people then had to do massive employee retrenchments. The artists were also given the freedom to accept offers from other networks.
Many artists chose to stay with ABS-CBN. Among them are Star Magic artists like Kim Chiu, Enchong Dee, and Robi Domingo who recently signed an exclusive contract with the network.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at the contract signing event, ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak thanked the artists who “chose to stay” with the network despite the difficult times.
“Ang hirap-hirap po ng taong 2020… But ABS-CBN has always been at its best in its most difficult times. This year is no exception,” he said.
Based on the report, Katigbak reiterated that the commitment of the network to serve the public is its foundation thus it has not stopped finding ways to fulfill it.
The ABS-CBN President then gave a message to the stars who rallied behind the network as love and support. He expressed his gratitude to them.
“Thank you for choosing to be part of our mission. Thank you for believing in our company. And thank you for supporting us in our most difficult moments,” he said.
