Before entering the world of politics, Richard has been a major part of his life in the entertainment industry. He also did several TV and movie projects under ABS-CBN.
The actor did hit sitcoms in the Kapamilya network such as Palibhasa Lalake, Richard Loves Lucy, and various drama series as well. Apparently, he is also saddened by the fact that ABS-CBN already went off the air after following the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission with concern to the issue of its franchise.
During the recent a public briefing on Tuesday, Communications Undersecretary Rocky Ignacio asked Richard Gomez about his thought regarding the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
The answer of the Ormoc City Mayor was, “Naku baka mas maganda yata na kayo sasagot nyan dahil kayo ang nasa gobyerno na nagpahinto sa pagbroadcast ng ABS-CBN.”
Because of this, Richard became one of the top Twitter trends on Thursday afternoon. Netizens have various reactions to what he said. Some admired him for being straightforward while some saw that as “throwing shade”.
Meanwhile, the actor-turned-politician said that he hoped that the closure is just temporary because of the people working there. “Marami akong kaibigan na artista na nagtatrabaho doon sa ABS-CBN and hopefully matugunan na or kahit probationary lang ‘yong ibibigay sa kanila na pag-operate sa prangkisa nila ng sa ganoon ang ABS-CBN ay muling makapag-ere,” he said.
He also shared during the interview that some of his showbiz friends asked help from him and he extends what he can do for them. It is because he understands the situation of those in the industry who got paid if there is work.
