Various shows of the free-to-air channel said goodbye after being off the air since the lockdown due to the pandemic.

The cessation of the show’s operation resulted in massive company loss which might have prompted the management to lay off workers.

Among the shows that stopped airing were State of the Nation (SONA), Balitanghali, Quick Response Team (QRT), News TV Live, Tonight with Arnold Clavio, Biyahe ni Drew, Good News, Ang Pinaka, Pop Talk, Pinas Sarap, Bawal Ang Pasaway, and Reel Time.

While Newsmakers with Winnie Monsod, Bright Side with Kara David, Pera Paraan with Susan Enriquez, Home Work with Tonipet Gaba and Rovilson Fernandez, and Family Time with Drew Arellano were among the remaining shows in GMA News TV.

Based on the report of Rappler.com, the staffers were only told about the layoffs on Tuesday, September 8.

The report added that most of the workers terminated are employees under project employment contracts (PEC) or contractual workers.

They are being referred to as talents whose contracts are renewable every 6 months.

“I feel we have it worse than some employees of ABS-CBN. It feels like we were the ones who were shut down. We thought we still have jobs to return to, but now there’s none for us,” a staffer said.
