Here’s Why Atom Araullo Didn’t Pursue Acting
ATOM ARAULLO – GMA-7 broadcaster and TV host Atom Araullo revealed the reason why he did not pursue acting.
Alfonso Tomas Araullo, widely known as “Atom,” boasts a diverse portfolio spanning journalism, television hosting, modeling, triathlons, advocacy for the United Nations, and more recently, dabbling in acting and scriptwriting. Before establishing himself as a prominent figure in journalism, documentary filmmaking, and broadcasting for 24 Oras, Atom came close to entering the realm of television acting.
However, Atom revealed that he felt uneasy about the prospect of pursuing an acting career.
Reflecting on his journey during the 100th episode of the Surprise Guest with Pia Arangel podcast, Atom Araullo shared a story from his high school days when he was invited to audition for a teleserye.
Atom said, “It was, uh, a teleserye, if I remember correctly. I don’t recall which particular one. Pero, kahit noon, ano na ‘yan, naka-feel ako ng discomfort.”
He mentioned that he was extremely shy, and even though he had some experience in theater acting, he still felt overwhelmed.
“’Pag pinapanood ko ‘yung buhay ng mga artista, parang feeling ko hindi ko rin kakayanin,” he added.
Atom Araullo also confessed that he once had a fascination with acting. Nevertheless, he clarified that his determination to complete his education was the definitive factor that dissuaded him from pursuing a career in show business.
“Kasi feeling ko baka umabot sa ganun point na kailangan kong pumili between doing a show, and finishing my studies in Pisay (Philippine Sceince High School). So sabi ko, kung talagang ito ang gusto kong gawin, baka kahit after college na lang,” he said.
But as Atom continued, “Pero hindi na rin ako ever bumalik.”
Atom recognized at a young age that he was introverted because he frequently experienced fatigue when engaging with others. Additionally, he noted that he tends to feel overwhelmed in crowded settings such as parties.
“Before, I couldn’t understand it eh. Parang bakit ako, all of a sudden, I wanted to hide in the bathroom, or I wanted to leave and not say goodbye to anyone, things like that,” he said.
He indicated his belief that individuals cannot be neatly categorized as either introverted or extroverted. He explained, “I think all of us have some introverted ‘tendencies’ and extroverted tendencies.”
According to Atom, his role as a reporter has also taught him how to effectively interact with others.
