ATOM ARAULLO – The Kapuso broadcast journalist took to social media wherein he called out a netizen for “red-tagging” his mother.

On Tuesday, October 18, the documentarist went to the micro-blogging site, Twitter wherein he posted some screenshots as proof of the red-tagging towards his mom as well as condemned the netizen for his tirade.

“I don’t usually call out private individuals here, but behavior like this should not be normalized. Disinformation is a huge problem globally, one that can have deadly consequences,” Atom Araullo said.

A Twitter user with the handle name @Jey_Owh accused the mother of the news presenter of being part of the New People’s Army (NPA) and for allegedly being the “utak ng bombing sa Mendiola.”

“@Jey_Owh, don’t do that. These are lies, probably fed to you by some of the influencers you follow. Kailan pa naging katanggap-tanggap yung ganito?” Atom noted.

The mother of Araullo rose to fame for being an activist at the height of the Diliman Commune of 1971 until the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Atom and his mom both graduated from the University of the Philippines (UP).

The broadcast journalist also ventured into activism amid protest against former President Joseph Estrada.

The mother and son shared in a one-on-one interview session in 2021 that “personal journey was their respective reason for embracing activism.

The journalist also admitted that a large part of his character today is the lessons he learned during his several years of participating in activism.

Meanwhile, red-tagging is the malicious blacklisting of individuals or organizations who are critical of or do not fully support the actions of the country’s current government administration.

Regardless of their actual political beliefs or affiliations, these individuals and organizations are “labeled” as communists, terrorists, or both.
