Brillante Mendoza shares how he once scolded Baron Geisler for drinking while shooting their movie
BRILLANTE MENDOZA – The award-winning director disclosed that actor Baron Geisler once drank alcohol during the shooting of ‘Moro.’
Baron Geisler, a Filipino actor of German-American descent, is renowned for his career in the Philippine entertainment industry. He commenced as a child actor in 1994 and rose to become a notable teen idol. His career has had its highs and lows, involving struggles with alcohol abuse and legal issues. However, he made a comeback in his middle age, receiving critical acclaim and commercial success as a character actor.
Earlier, there were reports circulating about Baron arriving drunk on the set of the TV series ‘Senior High.’ This might have sparked rumors suggesting it was the reason for his removal from the series. Arnold Vegafria, Baron’s manager, refuted the rumors spread by showbiz reporters.
Director Brillante Mendoza also shared his perspective on the matter. In an interview with PEP.ph, he revealed that Baron had consumed alcohol on the set of the movie “Moro,” which began filming in 2019 and was temporarily halted due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. However, he expressed his disapproval of the situation, stating that he was angered by it, and Baron didn’t repeat the behavior after that incident.
Brillante also mentioned that he maintains a good relationship with Baron and even regards himself as a father figure to the actor. He explained that Baron sometimes stayed overnight in their office during filming, and there were occasions when he allowed Baron to sleep there.
“Kasi ako lang ang puwedeng magalit sa kanya na parang, ‘Oy, tumigil ka na. Kapag ako ang nainis sa iyo,’ gina-ganoon ko siya. Kaya ko siyang ganunin. Kaya ang tawag niya sa akin tatay, e. Kasi yung parang kapag nagagalit ako sa kanya hindi as director or what, kundi bilang tatay, e,” he said.
“Minsan dito pa iyan natutulog. Pag nagshu-shooting kami, sasabihin niya sa akin, ‘Direk, diyan na ako matutulog sa Megamall. ‘O, sige, sige,’ sabi ko sa kanya. ‘Para sigurado ako kasama ako bukas,’ sasabihin niya sa akin,” he added.
