Meet Ron Jan Rubia, a former I.T. engineer who has embarked on a new journey as a siomai vendor.
RON JAN RUBIA – An Information Technology (I.T.) engineer, made the bold decision to resign from his job and venture into the world of siomai vending to pursue his higher aspirations.
As an I.T. engineer in Ortigas, Ron had a stable income working from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, he desired more control over his time and the opportunity to maximize his earnings. In an interview, Ron explained that having ownership of his time would allow him to achieve greater financial success compared to the limitations of a regular job.
Ron and his partner explored various business ideas before settling on the food industry. They decided to start small with a siomai cart. Ron had previous experience as an Angkas rider. Inspired by his own experiences and the affordability of food carts, he saw an opportunity to become a go-to food vendor for fellow riders.
With a capital of PHP 20,000, Ron purchased a second-hand food cart and the necessary equipment for his siomai business. Setting up shop at Mulawin Bend in Pasig City, he named his business “Siomai Boulevard.” Initially dedicating all his time to establishing the cart, Ron’s efforts paid off as his sales began to skyrocket in April, with his daily earnings reaching a minimum of PHP 5,000.
Ron’s TikTok video documenting his life as a siomai vendor further boosted his business. Many customers mentioned seeing the video, highlighting the significant impact of social media in promoting his venture. To enhance efficiency, Ron upgraded his cart to an e-bike.
According to PEP.ph, siomai prices in Ron’s business range from PHP 25 for a siomai order, PHP 40 when accompanied by Java Rice, and PHP 50 if a drink is included. Ron firmly believes that entrepreneurship is the key to achieving his dreams, motivating him to leave the corporate world behind. He acknowledges that a traditional job alone is insufficient to fulfill his aspirations, emphasizing the importance of leveraging one’s time and efforts to maximize earnings and personal growth.
