Former Vendor of Sweepstakes Tickets and Sampaguita, Now a Successful Businessman in the UK

Meet John Belmonte, sweepstakes and sampaguita vendor turned successful businessman

JOHN BELMONTE – A Filipino nurse and entrepreneur based in London, recently shared his inspiring story on the program “Juan Home.” From his humble beginnings as a street vendor in Batangas, selling sampaguita and sweepstakes tickets, he has now become a successful business owner and respected nurse.

John’s entrepreneurial journey began at the age of 10 when he started selling sweepstakes tickets to earn his own money. Today, he owns four Filipino restaurants, a grocery store, and an agency that supplies nurses to over 400 private hospitals in the UK. He is also in the process of opening a Japanese takeaway restaurant.

Despite facing challenges, such as his parents’ separation, John was motivated to create a better life for himself and his family. He worked hard to overcome financial struggles and pursued his dream of becoming a nurse. His determination led him to study nursing and work in Singapore, Ireland, and eventually London, where he joined the National Health Service.

In 2008, an opportunity arose when John discovered an agency that endorsed nurses to UK hospitals. Building on his skills and dedicating himself to his work, he became a highly sought-after agency nurse in various hospitals. This experience allowed him to save enough capital to establish his own nursing agency, Comfort Healthcare Services, which now employs numerous nurses and supplies them to over 400 private hospitals.

John’s entrepreneurial ventures expanded beyond nursing as he opened Spoon and Rice, a Filipino restaurant with four branches, and a large grocery store catering to the Filipino community in London. He believes in supporting fellow Filipino suppliers and helping them grow alongside his own business.

Throughout his journey, John attributes his success to his unwavering faith in God and the teamwork with his wife. He emphasizes the importance of staying connected to one’s roots, believing in a higher power, and giving back to others.
