Teenagers Try Travel Hack for Excess Baggage, Fined $40 After Failed Attempt

Two teenagers were fined 40$ after attempting a travel hack for their excess baggage to avoid paying additional baggage fees.

In the age of viral “life hacks” and clever travel tips, it’s important to separate the practical from the potentially problematic. One popular travel hack that has gained attention involves wearing multiple layers of clothing to avoid paying excess baggage fees.

However, two adventurous teens recently discovered the drawbacks of this strategy when they were fined $40 and instructed to wear their excess clothing throughout their flight. The incident serves as a cautionary tale about the limitations and risks associated with such hacks.

Travel enthusiast Gel Rodriguez, among others, shared a travel hack that involved wearing multiple layers of clothing to circumvent excessive baggage charges. While the method worked for Rodriguez, she cautioned against its widespread use due to potential airline restrictions and health concerns associated with wearing excessive clothing.

Adriana Ocampo and Emily Altamura, two Australian teenagers, found themselves facing a predicament at the Melbourne airport when they realized their luggage exceeded the 15-pound limit by a hefty 6 kilograms.

Despite the warning signs, the teens remained undeterred as they planned to employ the trending travel hack to avoid paying extra fees.

Upon reaching the check-in counter, Ocampo and Altamura were informed of the excess baggage charges. Determined to dodge the fees, they hastily began layering on their excess clothes while capturing the comical scene on video.

However, to their dismay, even after piling on numerous garments, they were still significantly over the weight limit.

Adding to their embarrassment, fellow travelers looked on and chuckled as they witnessed the teens’ unconventional attire. Their ordeal took an even more frustrating turn when they were fined $40 by the airline.

To compound matters, the airline allegedly refused to allow the teens to return the excess clothing to their bags, leaving them with no choice but to wear the extra layers throughout the entire flight.
