Cum lauder-board passer receives an apology after being ghosted

Bench Lee Abadilla – The 23-year-old engineering graduate from Cebu City, has an interesting and inspiring story to share. While he experienced heartbreak in his love life, he found success in his academic pursuits.

Bench, an electrical engineering graduate from Cebu Institute of Technology-University, made waves with two Facebook posts. The first post, dated July 23, 2022, came after he graduated college as a cum laude. He wrote, “To the girl who ghosted me and said, ‘Bantay ug dika ma Cum Laude anang sigeg study nimo ha [Let’s see if you can be a Cum Laude for being so studious]’ This is for you.” Along with the post, Bench shared a photo of his graduation, proudly wearing his cum laude medal.

The second Facebook post, on May 3, 2022, announced another achievement. Bench revealed, “Thank you for ghosting me, Engineer na ako ngayon. — Engr. PEP.ph had the opportunity to speak with Bench via messaging on May 5, 2023. He shared the details of how he was ghosted by the girl he had feelings for. Bench admitted that during his upcoming fourth year in college, he discovered the possibility of achieving cum laude.

Determined to succeed academically, he dedicated all his attention to his studies, leaving little time for his love interest. Eventually, the girl stopped responding to him, and Bench experienced the pain of being ghosted. However, he no longer holds any resentment.

In addition to his studies, Bench invested time in reviewing for the board exam at the CEERS Review Center. His hard work paid off as he is now a licensed electrical engineer.

Bench also revealed that he and the girl were not close friends. He accepted the situation and remained focused on his goals. While the girl desired more of his time, Bench prioritized his studies. However, after the board exam results were released on May 4, 2023, the girl reached out to Bench to congratulate him.

She messaged him, saying, “Congrats, Bench! Sorry kung na-feel mo na na-ghost kita. Ginawa ko lang yun para maka-focus ka.”
