Even though both parents are pure Filipinos, a child in Leyte looks like a foreigner
LEYTE – A child in the island province has captured the attention of many after looking like a foreigner despite both parents being pure Filipinos.
Children can have physical features that differ from those of their parents due to various factors such as genetic variation, where each parent contributes a diverse set of genes, which can lead to unique combinations and different physical traits in offspring. Dominant and recessive traits can also play a role, with recessive traits sometimes skipping a generation and reappearing in the child.
Genetic recombination during sexual reproduction further contributes to new combinations of genes, potentially resulting in physical features that don’t closely resemble the parents. Spontaneous mutations during gamete formation can introduce new genetic variations and contribute to unique physical features.
Additionally, environmental factors can influence physical development. It is important to remember that despite these differences, children still share a significant portion of their genetic makeup with their parents.
Speaking of which, parents from Leyte noticed that their three months old didn’t resemble them. According to Alona, the mother of the child, her daughter looks like a half-American. His nose was even more pointed than theirs while he has fair skin that turns red when exposed to sunlight.
Alona said there were people saying that he might not be their real child and that her husband is not the real father. She noted that it’s painful for them because they consider their child as a great blessing from God.
Rolando, her husband, on the other hand, told KMJS that he and his wife are both pure Filipinos and noticed as their child grew up, his skin is different. He shared that there were times he wanted to ask his wife about it. But he trusts his wife and they have been together for a long time. He noted that there was no reason for him to doubt her.
