SHOOTING INCIDENT – The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the brutal murder of a village captain and his wife in Asturias town, Cebu.

The victims were identified as Mario Tundag, a village chief, and his wife Edna, who were ambushed by unidentified gunmen while riding their motorcycle on Tuesday morning. The gunmen, who were also on a motorcycle, had been following the couple from Balamban town until they reached Asturias, where they waylaid and shot them multiple times using a .45 caliber handgun, causing instant death.

According to Asturias Police Chief P/Maj. Alden Zambrano as per the report of ABS-CBN News, the authorities are looking into the political angle as a possible motive for the murder. The police are currently pursuing the gunmen in nearby towns, and the shooting was caught on CCTV. Zambrano stated that they were also investigating whether the perpetrators were working in collusion with the victim’s political opponents.

Meanwhile, the community is in mourning, and Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia has called for the investigation to be expedited to ensure that justice is served for the slain couple. The brutal nature of the murder has caused concern among the locals, and they are urging the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible to prevent such crimes from happening again in the future.
