An agent from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) has been arrested for killing his neighbor in a shooting incident.
The PDEA-7 agent identified as David Cataluña Medallo has been detained after killing his neighbor, a 40-year-old Daniel Alolod last Sunday, January 3, in Madridejos town in Bantayan Island.
In a phone interview, Madridejos Police Station chief- Police Captain Wendell Abellana said that the suspect was arrested on Sunday after a hot pursuit operation.
PDEA-7 Director Levi Ortiz confirmed that Medallo, 36, was off-duty and is spending the holidays alongside his family when the incident happened.
“As an agent, he works well. He’s often quiet that’s why I’m surprised to receive information from the police about his involvement,” he said in his dialect.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and is yet to identify the motive behind the killing.
Four empty shells and a slug of a .45 caliber pistol were retrieved by the authorities from the crime scene which is believed to be his service firearms.
According to Ortiz, Medallo could face dismissal if he will be found guilty of the crime.
