Sison, a writer, activist, and a terrorist, is the founder of leftist revolutionary organization CPP. For over the five (5) decades, it has waged an insurgency rebellion against the Philippine government, aided by its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), and its political arm, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

In August 2002, the United States has designated him as a “person supporting terrorism”. In September 2009, the European Union’s second highest court ruled that he should be delisted as a “person supporting terrorism” and overturned a decision by member governments to freeze his assets. Since 1988, Sison has been recognized as a political refugee in the Netherlands.

Earlier today, CPP Chief Information Officer Marco Valbuena announced that Sison passed away at around 8:40 p.m. (Philippine time) after two weeks of confinement in the hospital. However, the cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.

Following the death of the CPP founder, Vice President Sara Duterte through her Facebook page: Inday Sara Duterte, issued a statement. In a short note, she wrote: “May God have mercy on his soul.”

Her statement on the death of Sison generated mixed reactions from the netizens. Among those who commented is social media persona, Senyora, who left the comment: “rip.”

Another netizen commented: “That’s what I love about Inday Sara Duterte being straight forward (heart emoji) Let’s think about it how can he be RIP when many people had suffered in their wrongs doings!”
