Juan Carlos “Arjo” Campo Atayde is an actor who is best known for his roles in ABS-CBN drama series such as FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, in which he reprised the role of Joaquin Tuazon.

He also ventured into politics and is currently serving as representative of Quezon City’s 1st district. He ran as an independent with the backing of the Joy Belmonte-led Serbisyo sa Bayan Party. He was elected with 66.85% of the vote, unseating incumbent Onyx Crisologo.

He was sworn in on June 30, 2022. On October 8, 2022, Atayde joined the Nacionalista Party, being sworn in by Fellow Representative Sandro Marcos (Ilocos Norte–1st).

Currently, he’s making a buzz online for being one of the co-authors of Maharlika Investment Fund Act or the House Bill No. 6608.

Maharlika Investment Fund aims to maximize state assets or government revenue to turn it into a “sovereign wealth fund,” by investing in various real and financial assets. The bill was also supported by House Speaker Martin Romualdez (Leyte, First District), his wife of Rep. Marie Romualdez of the Tingog Partylist and Ilocos 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos.

On the microblogging site, Twitter, Arjo Atayde became one of the trending topics earlier after netizens learned that he’s actually one of the co-authors of the controversial bill.

Apparently, Arjo Atayde, the fiance of actress-Eat Bulaga host Maine Mendoza, has yet to issue any statement regarding the criticisms he has been receiving.
