Update on the killing of Percy Lapid
PERCY LAPID CASE – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) warned the gunman who killed the veteran journalist to surrender while there’s still a chance.
Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead on Monday evening, October 3, in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City.
Lapid was a columnist for Hataw and the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242.
He was known for his furious commentaries on different happenings in the country, especially in politics.
According to the victim’s relative, Lapid was on his way home to do an online broadcast when he was shot several times at the gate of BF Resort Village at around 8:30 p.m.
Las Piñas City Police cited in an incident report that the victim was in his vehicle when a suspect on board a Toyota Fortuner suddenly bumped into the rear portion of his car, a Toyota Innova.
The police said that the other suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, shot the victim and fled in an unknown direction. The crime scene yielded two empty shells of unknown caliber.
Meanwhile, NCRPO warned the gunman who killed the veteran journalist to surrender while there’s still a chance.
“Ang aking panawagan at pakiusap sa mga bumaril at pumatay kay Percival Mabasa o kilala sa tawag na ‘Percy Lapid’ na sumuko na habang may pagkakataon pa,” National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo said.
The police had previously announced that the suspected gunman had been identified. The reward for the killer’s capture has been raised to P1.5 million.
According to a police spokesperson, the killing could be work-related.
