Previously, the banning of K-dramas became a trending topic on social media.

This was after Senator Jinggoy Estrada said in a Senate hearing on the 2023 budget of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) on Tuesday, October 18, that he’s considering submitting a proposal to ban Korean dramas.

According to him, Filipino artists are losing opportunities as local audiences favor foreign works. He added that if the country continues to air Koreanovelas, lots of Filipino artists lose their jobs and income.

Eventually, he clarified his earlier statements about Korean dramas, saying he uttered such “out of frustration”.

His statement earned backlash from ordinary citizens to well-known personalities.

Among those who reacted is no less than actor Ian Veneracion, who said that he’s not in favor of the proposal.

In an interview with Pikapika Showbiz, he said that it’s good that there’s competition because it helps one another become better.

He likened the banning of K-dramas issue on a basketball game wherein if the opponent is good, you just have to beat them.

He stressed that it’s not right to disqualify the opponent just because they cannot be beaten.
