If he is to be chosen, suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director-General Gerald Bantag said he would prefer to be put in a coffin rather than prison.

In an interview with Anthony “Ka Tunying” Taberna on October 31, he said he would prefer to be put in a coffin rather than in prison.

Bantag stressed will not allow himself to be put in jail after being linked to the death of journalist Percy Lapid.

According to him, he knows that he will not last long in the prison because of the number of people angry at him due to his strictness with BuCor.

“Ipapahintulot ko bang makulong ako? P*tayin na lang ninyo ako kasi alam ko ang mangyayari sakin,” he said.

“Magpptayan na lang kami ng gobyernong ito,” he added.

Bantag believes that he is being pointed as the mastermind behind what happened to Lapid because he was the only one named among the 160 persons of interest being investigated by the authorities.

According to him, the press conference held by the DILG wherein the agency named the ‘middleman’, who later died, was wrong.

In the same interview, Bantag shared that he received money from some individuals as ‘help’ allegedly in his quest to maintain order in BuCor.

The director-general denied doing something in return for the help being given to him.

Meanwhile, Bantag also gave a warning to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

“Kailangan maging watchful ka, Mr. President dahil baka ‘yan magiging downfall mo,” he said.

Bantag named former AFP chief-of-staff and now BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr. as one who will benefit if the president is ousted from his post.
