Percival Mabasa, also known as Percy Lapid, was shot dead on Monday evening, October 3, in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City.

Lapid was a columnist for Hataw and the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242.

He was known for his furious commentaries on different happenings in the country, especially in politics.

Lapid was on his way to work for his online broadcast program “Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242 when he was shot several times at the gate of BF Resort Village at around 8:30 p.m.

Roy Mabasa, a journalist and the brother of Lapid, revealed that he has been receiving death threats amid the investigation.

In an interview Super Radyo dzBB, he said: “Katakot-takot na pong death threat ang inaabot ko. Kaya nga po hindi ako nakapunta sa DOJ para sa kaalaman niyo lang dahil may banta po sa aking buhay.”

According to him, he has been receiving brazen messages on his cellphone through his Facebook Messenger and even video chat.

Meanwhile, earlier on Monday, October 24, the Justice Department launched a preliminary investigation into the murder complaint filed against confessed gunman Joel Escorial and three other co-conspirators in Lapid’s death.

When asked if the family of Jun Villamor, the deceased alleged “middleman” in the plot to kill Lapid, had received death threats, Mabasa said they, too, were terrified.

On October 18, Villamor died at the New Bilibid Prison hospital.
