Atty. Vic said in a statement that he had asked permission to step down from the position.

According to him, the work of an Executive Secretary is “a 24/7 job” with myriad topics expected to be attended to every day and it “demands a sense of urgency” which essentially required almost all of a public servant’s time in order to ensure that services are met and delivered.

There is nothing more rewarding than answering the call to serve the country, a rare privilege not extended to all but was given to me by the President, His Excellency Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.,” Atty. Vic said in a statement.

Atty. Vic, however, said he wanted to prioritize time with his family. He went on to thank President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for his continuing trust and his sincere understanding of my decision.

According to him, he will continue serving the Filipino people and the Philippines as the Presidential Chief of Staff.

The statement came after Manila Standard reported on Friday that Atty. Vic might be transferred to another position.

Citing its sources, Manila Standard reported that such a move “will spare Rodriguez from having to face the powerful Commission on Appointments” where an unfavorable action could put the President in a bind. Based on a report, a former Supreme Court justice is reportedly one of those being eyed to serve as the new Executive Secretary.

Malacañang, meanwhile, confirmed that Atty. Victor Rodriguez stepped down from his position as Executive Secretary.

We confirm reports that Atty Vic Rodriguez has stepped down as Executive Secretary,” said Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles in a separate statement.
