President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed 3 new officials of Sugar Regulatory Administration as he has reconstituted the SRA’s governing body.

PTV reported that the President appointed David John Thaddeus P. Alba as SRA’s acting administrator, replacing former SRA Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica, who resigned from his position amidst the controversy involving the questioned Sugar Order No. 4 (SO 4).

Other newly-appointed Sugar Regulatory Board members are Ma. Mitzi V. Mangwag, who replaced sugar millers representative Atty. Roland Beltran; and Pablo Luis S. Azcona, who replaced sugar planters representative Aurelio Gerardo Valderrama Jr.

The appointments were made on the heels of the questioned order authorizing the importation of 300,000 metric tons of sugar, which was later on declared “illegal” and thumbed down by the President.

The said order was deemed “illegal” as the Sugar Regulatory Board convened and issued a resolution without the approval of the President, who is chairman of the sugar board as the concurrent Agriculture Secretary.
