It was just recently when Rappler writer, Lian Buan, quoted that in times of calamity, people will look for journalists and not vloggers or influencers.

“I’ve said this over and over again — you prefer vloggers and influencers now for your so-called unbiased content, but on our worst days as a nation, it’s the journalists who will show up. Remember that,” she wrote.

Her controversial statement earned the reaction of many. Among those who reacted was Miss Global PHL 2016 and Eagle Broadcasting News anchor, CJ Hirro.

In a lengthy post, Hirro said that journalists are being paid to go to places devasted by calamities.

“Let’s just be honest here. Journalists are assigned beats. They’re paid to report. Except for some, they would not go out chasing storms by themselves for the love of reporting, or for the love of country,” she said.

According to her, unlike vloggers/bloggers, journalists are expected to be not “biased” otherwise, they will lose their credibility and audience.

CJ Hirro at one point cited how some journalists became biased during the May election, particularly on the victory of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

She added that although vloggers don’t come out during disasters, they still share relevant information from local government units and government agencies.

Lian Buan has yet to issue any statement regarding the criticism she has been receiving because of her controversial remark.
