Gomez is considered one of the most popular actors in the early 1990s.

Through the years, he has earned several awards and nominations.

He was part of the hit films such as Nagbabagang Luha, Babaeng Hampaslupa, Hihintayin Kita sa Langit as well as in the ABS-CBN sitcom Palibhasa Lalake alongside John Estrada and Joey Marquez.

In 1998, he married actress Lucy Torres, who later also became a politician.

Currently, he serves as Representative of Leyte’s 4th district. Prior to that, he served as mayor of Ormoc from 2016 to 2022.

In an interview during the orientation of lawmakers at the House of Representatives on Monday, July 4, the neophyte solon said it was time to amend the Constitution.

“Parang kotse yan eh ang lumang kotse kailangan inaayos na yung mga spare parts pinapalitan na,” Richard Gomez said.

Earlier, Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales filed a resolution to amend the Philippine Constitution.

Under his proposal, the President will be allowed to run again once his/her term ends thru a reelection while the current six-year term of the President will be cut to five.

Gonzales insisted that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. will not benefit from his proposal.

Based on Article VII, Section 4 of the 1987 constitution, the President and the Vice-President “shall be elected by direct vote of the people for a term of six years which shall begin at noon on the thirtieth day of June next following the day of the election and shall end at noon of the same date, six years thereafter. The President shall not be eligible for any re-election.”
