A first-timer and the first placer in the 2022 Senate race, Robin was proclaimed senator-elect along with 11 other winning candidates on Wednesday.

Addressing incoming senators and those still seated for another 3 years, the actor said that his lead in the elections reflects the demand for the government’s shift to federalism.

In his proclamation speech at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Robin said that those who voted for him believed in his platform. He then appeals to his fellow senators to support his push for reforms in the 1987 Constitution.

Robin also attributed his victory to the “unity” of Muslim and Christian Filipinos. According to him, no Muslim became a senator for almost 30 years.

He also expressed gratitude to numerous Christian groups and churches which were supportive of his senatorial bid, mentioning Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), and El Shaddai and their respective leaders.

The last part of his speech was a clear reference to Eric Clapton’s hit song “Wonderful Tonight” which he performed in his campaign sorties in order to woo voters.

Bilang panghuling salita, gusto kong malaman ninyo na it’s late in the evening, I feel wonderful tonight,” he said as he ended his speech.
