It was on Sunday, June 12 when the country commemorated Independence Day.

President Rodrigo Duterte led the 124th commemoration of the country’s independence at Rizal Park in Manila.

He was joined by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Rene Escalante, Manila Mayor-elect Vice Mayor Sheilah ‘Honey’ Lacuna, his long-time aide Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go, as well as Lorenzana.

However, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana passed out during the program.

Fortunately, Lacuna was able to catch him when he fell. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.

According to DND Spokesperson Arsenio Andolong, the hectic schedule of the Defense Secretary and the intense heat at Luneta Park are probably the reason why he passed out.

A few hours after passing out at the event, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana released a statement noting that his lack of rest and sleep from his “recent successive international engagements” may have taken its toll on him.

The 73-year-old Cabinet secretary is now okay and back to his usual self.

Meanwhile, Sec. Lorenzana took to social media wherein he thanked Lacuna for saving him.

“Do you believe in miracles? I do. Last Sunday, Mayor-elect Dra. Honey Lacuna of Manila saved me from a possible life-altering injury when I fainted due to the heat and exhaustion. Thank you again, Mayor Honey, for being at the right place, at the right time!” he wrote as the caption on his post.
