Vendor Wins Mayor in Eastern Samar

Did you know that the newly elected mayor of Dolores, Eastern is a vendor?

RODRIGO ONOY RIVERA – A vendor won the mayoralty race in Dolores, Eastern Samar during the election on Monday, May 9.

Rivera, a 62-year-old vendor won against his rival, Zaldy Carpeso, a doctor.

The vendor earned 11,508 votes while the doctor got 10,946.

Carpeso is the brother of the outgoing mayor who’s serving his last term but elected as vice mayor of the said municipality.

The vendor only finished second-year high school and ran as an independent candidate.

“I asked for help and thanked God. I thanked Him for granting my prayers. This victory is for the people, to provide the services that the people need, a service from the government available to everyone,” he said in an interview using their local dialect.

Before running as mayor, Rivera once served as chairman of Barangay Gap-an for nine (9) years.

Among the priority projects of the newly elected mayor is to fix the clogged drainage, dark roads, lack of classrooms, lack of health facilities, and lack of clean water supply.

Meanwhile, still leading the presidential race is presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. On the other hand, presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte, both earned more than 31 million votes.

For senatorial race, the leading candidate is Robin Padilla who received 26,454,562 votes, followed by Loren Legarda with 23,992,761 votes, Raffy Tulfo with 23,166,449 votes, Win Gatchalian with 20,376,009 votes, Chiz Escudero with 20,050,377 votes, Mark Villar with 19,210,280, Alan Peter Cayetano with 19,079,581 votes, Migz Zubiri with 18,582,962 votes, Joel Villanueva with 18,300,955 votes, JV Ejercito with 15,688,993 votes, Risa Hontiveros with 15,273,594 votes and Jinggoy Estrada with 14,966,887 votes.
