The President said in a speech in Mataasnakahoy, Batangas that the circle next to the name of his daughter will be the one he will shade on the ballot when he casts his vote on May 9, 2022.

Lahat ‘yung nalalaman ko na magandang asal para sa maging presidente sinasabi ko. It’s because I want to pass it on to the next generation,” the President said. “Ako wala na, tapos na ako. I am not supporting any candidate except, of course, my daughter. Ako, boboto talaga ako sa anak ko.

This is the first time that the President categorically announced that he will vote for his daughter as vice president, although he has repeatedly said that only his daughter could continue his legacy.

The President vouched for the competence of his daughter during the campaign sortie of ruling political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) last March 31, describing Mayor Sara as “very good and hardworking.”

President Duterte said that his daughter, given her qualities and leadership style, would be a great fit for the vice presidency.

Actually, this is the first time that I’m using my name as a father, for my daughter. It’s because we’ve had issues, pero anak is anak is anak,” the President said in a mix of English and Bisaya at that time.

Mayor Sara then reacted to her father’s endorsement of her VP bid in the 2022 elections. Inquirer reported that Mayor Sara expressed her gratitude for her father’s endorsement in a chance interview in Pandi, Bulacan.
