Bongbong was the guest during the April 26 episode of CNN Philippines’ “The Presidential Candidates: In Private” interview series. It didn’t take Ruth Cabal long for her to hurl one of the lingering questions about him when it comes to his relationship with the President.

The former senator was asked to respond to a speech wherein the President said that he’s a “spoiled brat” and a “weak leader”.

Bongbong believed that President Duterte was just “playing politics” when the President called him unsavory names not too long ago. However, he managed to compose himself and laid out what he thought about the person currently sitting in Malacañang.

Well…I think he was playing politics,” Bongbong said. “I think one of the things we have learned about PRRD is that he likes to keep everyone on their toes. He’s always making sure everybody’s thinking hard about what they’re doing. So I think that was one of their instances.

Bongbong’s response came after the President said last November 2021 that the former senator is a “weak leader” and “spoiled child”.

Hindi ako bilib (kay Bongbong). He is a weak leader. Totoo yan, di ako naninira ng tao. Talangang weak kasi spoiled child, only son (of the family),” the President said at that time. “Pero sabihin mong may crisis, he is a weak leader. At saka may bagahe siya.

Whatever the case is, the President and the former senator have apparently buried the hatchet when they met late last month.

The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which the President chairs, endorsed Bongbong’s presidential bid. However, the President has yet to personally endorse the former senator in the upcoming 2022 elections, which will be held on May 9.
