GMA-7 and GTV are leading in the rating game and the commercial load overflows their programs.

In fact, the Kapuso network has a huge gap with TV5 and other networks.

According to Lilybeth Gomez-Rasonable, the GMA Senior VP for GMA Entertainment Group said that as early as now, they are preparing the programs they will present next year.

Asked if the execs are threatened by the Villar-owned AMBS (Advanced Media Broadcasting System), Joey Abacan, the GMA First VP for Program Management said: “Laro ‘to, e. So, maglaro tayo nang maayos. So, tingnan natin — may mananalo, may matatalo.”

Rasonable, on the other hand, agreed with the statement of Abacan.

Abacan added that it’s better to have a competitor because it “keeps us on our toes.”

Nessa Valdellon, GMA First VP for Public Affairs, for her part said that they are really looking forward to having competition.

Earlier this year, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) granted frequencies previously used by ABS-CBN Corporation to several broadcasting companies.

This includes the Channel 2 frequency which was awarded to Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS), owned by billionaire and former senator, Manny Villar.

Aside from that, NTC also granted Channel 16, the analog channel in Mega Manila to AMBS.

To recall, it was on May 5, 2020, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Solicitor General Jose Calida issued a cease-and-desist order to ABS-CBN.

On July 10, 2020, members of the House of Representatives, particularly the Committee on Legislative Franchises, voted 70–11 to deny the franchise application of ABS-CBN, citing several issues on the network’s franchise.
