The telco, through its ICT arm ePLDT, is building VITRO’s 11th data center in its 5-hectare property in Sta. Rosa, Laguna in order to cater to the strong demand of hyperscalers expanding in the region,.

Last February 22, the telco announced that PLDT group’s new, telco-neutral hyperscaler facility will have an additional 100MW of capacity. PLDT and Smart Communications Inc. President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio noted that the demand for digital services keeps on growing.

Panlilio pointed out that they have the ready facilities and they continued to expand their data centers in order to accommodate the demand to ensure that they’re able to keep up and deliver future requirements.

Manila Bulletin reported that Sta. Rosa is geographically ideal for the new data center, being 100 meters above sea level and far from earthquakes, liquefaction, and other natural disaster risks. Based on the report, Sta. Rosa is a highly-developed industrial area accessible via 3 major highways.

Furthermore, VITRO Sta. Rosa will be equipped with triple-route PLDT domestic fiber and telco fiber connectivity from other providers.

It will also have the densest interconnectivity to PLDT Group’s own internet exchanges and other internet ecosystems in the Philippines.

Overall, VITRO Sta. Rosa will have the most ideal location for Availability Zones and Points-of-Presence of Hyperscalers, as well as for critical systems of Enterprises.

PLDT’s hyperscaler facility is designed to be “Tier-3 Certified and Tier-4 Ready”, complete with an on-site Meralco power substation interconnected to several other substations in order to minimize the risk of power failure. This will be the 1st of PLDT’s series of hyperscaler data centers with a total power requirement of 100MW over the medium term.

Prior to VITRO Sta. Rosa, Manila Bulletin reported that the PLDT Group had been serving the requirements of hyperscalers via existing VITRO facilities.

Jojo Gendrano, FVP and Head of Enterprise and International at PLDT and Smart, said that PLDT and ePLDT have longstanding relationships with global hyperscalers and so they understand their requirements.

We have elevated the infrastructure design, operating practices, and business models in our existing data centers according to what they need,” Gendrano said. “VITRO Sta. Rosa’s design and operations will be very well-suited to hyperscaler standards.

ePLDT, via its VITRO Data Centers, is a pioneer data center operator in the Philippines, with more than 20 years of experience in the field.
