In a radio interview posted on Facebook, Panelo was encouraging voters to scrutinize the track record of political candidates and to support a leader like President Duterte in the 2022 elections.

According to a report on Politiko, Panelo said that voters should look for leaders that have the same principles and programs as the incumbent president.

President Duterte will be stepping down in 2022 after a six-year term that centered on the war on drugs and the COVID-19 pandemic response. The President changed his mind about retiring from politics and will instead seek a Senate seat in the 2022 elections.

Panelo said. “Tingnan ninyo ang record nila at malalaman ninyo po kung sino ang dapat humalili kay Presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte.”

The administration hasn’t been unable to field a standard-bearer in the 2022 elections yet. According to Panelo, President Duterte was expected to announce his preferred presidential bet soon.

Earlier, the President endorsed Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as president but the latter decided to withdraw from the presidential race.

Ang sabi po ni Presidente sa akin noong isang gabi, pakisabi sa kanila, dahil nag-withdraw nga si Bong Go, eh maghintay lang dahil meron tayong kandidato,” Panelo said.

Among the presidential aspirants were Senators Manny Pacquiao and Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Vice President Leni Robredo, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, and labor leader Leody de Guzman.
