Food supply in Dinagat Islands was running scarce because of typhoon “Odette”, according to Vice President Leni Robredo.
LENI ROBREDO — The incumbent Vice President said that food supply in Dinagat Islands was running scarce because of typhoon “Odette”.
Sharing photos on Facebook, Robredo on Monday called for immediate aid for Dinagat Islands over a reported scarce on food supply in the aftermath of typhoon “Odette” that hit the province.
Robredo said in a statement that the food supply in the province was running scarce and people can’t buy food there, adding that they weren’t able to get in touch with Governor Kaka Bag-ao since she went to Butuan City to get help.
“Kailangan na kailangan po ng Dinagat Islands yung tulong natin. Naiyak po kami paglapag palang namin nung nakita namin ang kalagayan nila. Wasak na wasak halos lahat pati ang provincial capitol na binisita palang namin two years ago,” Robredo said.
She added that there’s no electricity, clean water, and means of communication in the province as well.

Robredo also said that many roads in the province remained impassable because of fallen trees and electric posts, adding that her team rode a motorcycle in order to go around and assess the damage.
“Pasensya na po at wala po kaming helmet. Naghanap naman po kami pero wala po silang mahanap at halos lahat daw po nilang gamit ay natangay na ng bagyo,” Robredo said.
Earlier, the Vice President visited other areas affected by typhoon “Odette” — Cebu, Bohol, Surigao, Southern Leyte, and Siargao — in order to provide relief goods and for assessment of any further assistance amidst the massive devastation.
The volunteer center of Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan for the 2022 elections had been converted to “Odette” relief operations headquarters in an effort to aid the victims of the storm which hit the Philippines a week before Christmas Day.
